Tumbatu — Get Started
Got a code for a Tumbatu watch face? Here's how to install it. Setup takes about 10 minutes, once.
The Tumbatu Collection is eight Wear OS watch faces with original AI art of the WaTumbatu, Zanzibar's fisher-sailors. Each face pairs with the free Kemetic Solunar Matrix complication, which works out MAJOR and MINOR feeding windows on your watch itself, and once it's set up it keeps working even if your phone dies on the water. No subscription. The collection is in early access on Google Play ahead of its public launch, and early-access members get faces free with a code (normally $14.99 each).
Before you start
- A Wear OS 6 or newer watch (Pixel Watch, or a recent Galaxy Watch).
- Your phone and watch signed into the same Google account.
- A code for a specific face. Each code works once, only for that face, and until 6 Dec 2026.
1. Join CRZA Early Access
Signed into the Google account on your watch, open groups.google.com/g/crza-early-access and click Join group. It's free, and it's what unlocks early access on Google Play.
2. Unlock the engine and your face
Open the link for the companion engine and for the face your code is for, then tap Become a tester on each (that's Google's wording for early access). If it says you aren't eligible, wait a few minutes after joining the group and try again.
- CRZA Solunar Engine (free, everyone needs it): opt-in link
- Jua — The Sun: opt-in link
- Upeo — The Horizon: opt-in link
- Pwani — The Coast: opt-in link
- Mwangaza — The Light: opt-in link
- Ngalawa — The Canoe: opt-in link
- Wavu — The Net: opt-in link
- Machweo — The Setting: opt-in link
- Urembo — The Adornment: opt-in link
3. Install the engine (from a computer)
The engine doesn't show up in Play search, and the phone's Play app won't install it. On a computer, signed into the same Google account, open the CRZA Solunar Engine Play page, click Install and choose your watch. Play may ask you to confirm with your passkey; that's normal. It arrives on the watch within a few minutes. Then open CRZA Solunar Engine from your watch's app list and tap Allow location.
4. Get your face with your code (on the watch)
- On the watch, open the Play Store and search for the face by name. It shows $14.99. That's expected, so tap it anyway.
- The watch says Complete your purchase. Open the notification on your phone, or go to g.co/PlayContinue in a browser.
- On the purchase screen, tap the payment method shown to open the full list. Scroll down to Redeem code and enter your code.
- Back on the watch, finish the install. There's no charge.
5. Set it up
- Long-press your current watch face, swipe to Add new, and pick your Tumbatu face.
- Tap Edit, swipe right-to-left to the complications page, tap the top-right slot and choose Kemetic Solunar Matrix.
- Check the gold slot. If its times start with "~", they're still estimated from your time zone: tap the slot and allow location. Your location never leaves the watch.
If something's off
- "Kemetic Solunar Matrix" isn't in the list: the engine isn't installed yet. The face doesn't include it. Do step 3.
- "This code isn't valid": the code is for a different face. Codes only work for the face they were made for.
- "Not compatible" on your phone: normal. That's the phone talking, not the watch. Install on the watch, or from a computer for the engine.
- "Couldn't get a location fix": your phone isn't connected. Bring it near the watch with Bluetooth on, then tap Refresh location in the engine app.
- Heading somewhere new? Open the engine app with your phone nearby and the times follow you.
- A face doesn't show up in search: make sure you did step 2 for that face, then try again a little later.
Please stay in for two weeks
Google requires each new app to keep its early-access members for 14 days before it can go public, so please stay opted in and use your face. Questions or feedback are welcome through our contact page. Thank you for helping bring Tumbatu to the Play Store.
